Now Trending: Primary Pows!

Saturday, January 26, 2013

As the cold and rainy weather makes a comeback, so do elementary-school primary colors. Red, blue, and yellow brighten up the otherwise grey days of LA's surprisingly cold winter. Things like Metallic Loafers and sparkly makeup have become wanted by many, but must be done right.
With the loafers, keep it simple on top. Black pants or jeans and solid sweaters would do it for me. With the makeup, such as golden lips and sapphire eyes, DO NOT wear that on a daily basis. Maybe for a photo shoot with friends or a party, but no one wants to look like they kissed Martha Stewart at school or at work, that is unless your at NYFW.
Also, the  comic/superhero trend has popped up. Pows and Kapows can be seen at Topshop. The Chanel nail polish iPhone Cases are amazing too, whoever came up with that is genius.

InStyle Magazine: Jessica Alba

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

I drew this today after catching a glimpse of the February 2013 InStyle Magazine cover, featuring the beautiful Jessica Alba.
I changed it up just a bit on the lips and hair though.
It was super fun to "glitterize" the skirt.

See the actual cover here:

Shine Bright

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

I started this piece last night on a flight back home from a New Orleans community service trip (Some pieces will be created based on the trip soon). I painted and embellished it this morning. I really want to wear this top- lavender is my favorite color, and there is no such thing as too much pearls and glitter!

Street Style

Monday, January 14, 2013

I sketched this sophisticated lady last night, channeling the idea of a New York "street style" BBD (Big Black Dress). I became inspired to place the drawing against a real New York background, once I came across two great photos in my 100 Years of Fashion Illustration book. I'll definitely try this again.

Blue Ivy

Geren Ford clutch// Joie pants// Zara flats

Whenever I walk into the Ivy at the Shore restaurant, I feel like I have just walked into the Dolce & Gabbana show-room, with the European antique feel and all. I visited the restaurant yesterday for my aunt's wedding shower. It was beautiful and delicious! I decided to wear flats because it was during the day, along with a silk black Madewell button-down and these awesome Joie lace trousers.  I carried with my my new all-time favorite clutch in the world- it completely describes me. I'm an artist, and I'm a brat (as I was told by my mom), so that's why she surprised me with the bag from Post 26. Love!!!

Paper Fashion

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

I'm using one of my walls as a canvas to some late night glittery paper fashion cut-outs that I make and are piled up in my art box. Now when you walk into my room you can see the otherwise hidden pieces I adore! Here's one of them- I'm in love with the glittery dress under Terra-cotta trench. One of these days hopefully  I'll actually make this outfit, because I can't wait to wear it!

Face It

Sunday, January 6, 2013

I drew this last night, inspired by a Barney's visit earlier in the day. It was my aunt's birthday, and she tried on this amazing jacket. I was inspired by its masculine shoulders and leather collar. Although I did not catch its brand, It reminded me of something I would find in the Rag & Bone section. I kept the sketch pencil only, adding dramatic darks and lights. I'm trying to accomplish semi- realistic faces, so I changed up how I drew the eyes and hair on this one. She turned out
not-really-but-kinda looking like Freja Beha ( I think ).

I measure how long a piece takes me by how many Law & Order: SVU episodes I watch in the process. About four.

The Cozy Truth About the Puffer.

Topshop blouse, Kasil + Taylor Jacobson BF jeans,
Old Navy Puffy vest, Dolce Vita booties,
Cambridge Satchel Co. bag, Kate Spade shades

Huh? What? Yes! The puffy jacket/ vest trend has made a wonderfully wintery come-back! These over-sized babies are here and ever so stylish, at least for now. As they say on Project Runway- one day your in, the next your out. I'm not completely sure about how I feel about them- they most certainly need to be worn right. Please, not with shorts or strappy sandals ladies! Keep it simple, boots and jeans are the safe way to go.But if boyfriend jeans and cute booties don't do it for you, check out The Man Repeller's bright take on the matter. Definitely something to try!

A New Year

Tuesday, January 1, 2013

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Years! I had a great night- full of friends, family, and sparkles! Early in the day I sketched an ideal NYE party dress, dawning vibrance and glitter. After getting my hair done and dressing for the occasion, some friends came over and we swooned over the fabulous gifts my mom gave us- little "party favors" by Jouer, from Jill Roberts. Included in the favors were a ring, Champagne bubbles, a lipgloss, and a lovely quote. My friend gifted me the adorable "A" necklace. Sadly, the Holiday season is pretty much over. I'll enjoy my few days off from school.
