BEST OF THE BEST

Monday, February 25, 2013

Now trending (Oscars style) : pastels, metallics, and spring themes. This year's Oscars presented an amazing red carpet. I loved the sweet tones, florals, and statement jewels. Did anyone catch Sandra Bullock's edgy hair clip, or either of Jennifer or Anne's necklaces? BEAUTIFUL. Jennifer went with a simple look- a small diamond chain draping ever-so-elegantly down her back. Anne, on the other hand, chose more flashy, and showed off a gorgeous multi shape chocker with a quaint gathering on the back. I would have to say that Anne, Zoe, and Naomi were the best (of the best).

chanel haute couture '13

Sunday, February 24, 2013

I left my Chanel venture with a press pack of photos from the Chanel Haute Couture 2013 collection. I recreated my favorite one, a profile shot of a beautiful woman clad with a woven hat and a matching coat, a tulle and feathers headpiece, and tulle (yes tulle) eyelashes. I love the way it's chic yet gothic, and totally Chanel.

MY DAY @ CHANEL

Friday, February 22, 2013

Today was like a dream. I got to visit the Chanel showroom on Rodeo Drive with my aunt ZoĆ«, where her best friend Annie, the head of Chanel's PR, gave us a tour of the "Chanel Haut Couture 2013" collection- never to be in stores. Annie explained the part of her job where she gets to dress her clients (such as celebrities and socialites) in Chanel gowns, shoes, bags, and accessories for amazing events. Being Oscar weekend, the room was equipped with some of the most beautiful clothing I have ever seen in my life. I was told that each dress was hand made, some including thousands of sequins, hand painted flowers, and feathers (like the wedding gowns). I absolutely love the way that pieces in the room are totally different (material, color, and style-wise), but still look phenomenal together as a cohesive collection.

FACT: They change the wall paper in the showroom whenever there is a new collection, so that everything is complete and perfect.

xo amanda jane, who is extremely happy right now.

p.s. I was totally starstruck when Chloe Grace Moretz walked in...

little things

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

My friend from school kindly asked me to create a few pieces for her charity. I decided to make this first piece, inspired by a previous project, "The Essentials".  Everybody needs a pair of cute sunnies, Chanel concealer, glittery polish, Topshop lipstick, statement earrings, and a French Macaroon sometimes...

Subtle Sunday: 100th Post!!!

Giant Dwarf headband (worn as chocker) // LOVE necklace from Jill Roberts // Topshop sweatshirt //
Brandy Melville skirt //DKNY tights // "Closet of Mom" booties // Marc by Marc Jacobs bag

Yesterday, I decided to show off one of my new Topshop pieces, but in a comfy way. My whole weekend has become so much brighter after visiting LA's first ever Topshop, at the Grove. Being my all time favorite store, I ran around the shop's two floors, picking out a couple to many clothing items, shoes, and accessories. I was pleased to find this great sweatshirt, it's loose, cozy, and gray. I can wear it working out, with sweats, or over a collared shirt with a statement necklace and skinnies. I opted for the headband, but wore it as a chocker. With my crazy hair, I can only wear the precious piece on my head when my hair has been done. I bought the headband after seeing it on Tavi when I went to her book signing, and I fell in love. Although a simple and delicate piece, it's actually kinda hard to wear. The rest of the outfit must be just right. That's why my outfit yesterday remained black and gray, so that the silver stars could shine.

CASUAL vs. COUTURE

Saturday, February 16, 2013

Lately it has seemed as though mixing couture with a flare of casual is a regular trend. Like The Man Repeller for instance, mixing baggy blue jeans with bejeweled stilettos, or a plaid t-shirt underneath an a cocktail dress. In the spirit of NYFW, I drew a Casual vs. Couture gown, including a striped boyfriend button down and a beaded skirt (which took me two hours to complete). I let this outfit lean towards the couture side, dressing the model up with a DANNIJO-esque chocker and a leather clutch. Needless to say she absolutely needed to be placed in the middle of a New York street.

THE ART BRAT IN THE CITY

Monday, February 11, 2013

J.Crew coat + necklace // Madewell button up // Paige denim // Steve Madden wedges // Geren Ford clutch

Denim is amazing. I love the way denim pieces are all different- different washes, holes, stitching, patches, paint-splatters, and colors. On this chilly day, I opted for simple denim pieces- just a great universal button up and dark skinnies. I've been thinking a lot lately about how to mix colors and layers this winter, so I have found that the Man Repeller's "know your onion" theory is quite inspiring. Color-wise,I chose a camel coat, to stick with my sweet and beachy neutrals theme. The shoes are awesome- minimal yet exotic at the same time. I enjoy shoes that are transparent. They always catch attention. I also adore the denim top plus a girly necklace trend- and J. Crew is the absolute perfect place to find such things. The bag... I will wear it forever. I love its retro vibe and color blocking. Most of all, I love it because I truly believe it captures me, I love to make art and I'm a brat (so my mom tells me). Stay warm!

p.s. Personally I think that the best spot to munch on French Macaroons is Bottega Louie.
